Alive with Whales ...

The last days have been very good with the gentle giants of Skjalfandi. The Bay has been very lively and a lot of whales spotted on our tours.

The main stars on our trips have been the giant blue whales along with many majestic humpback whales.

Though the weather hasn’t been at its best, it doesn’t stop eager whale watchers to sail out to Skjalfandi in the search of whales ... and this morning our captain decided to go out whale watching - despite weather conditions not being that good. Thanks to the experience of the crew they were the only ones that managed to find 2 blue whales!!!

Following photos were taken recently by our guide & photographer Jesse Flores.

Feeding humpbacks. Humpback whales feed primarily on plankton, krill and small fish, such as capelin.

3 humpbacks just in front of our boat! Their long flippers can clearly be seen - but they can reach up to 5-6 metres in length.

A spout from a blue whale is reminiscent of a geyser, and can reach heights of nine metres.

Blue whales can reach up to 33 metres in lenght and are the largest animals ever to live on Earth!
