Gentle Giants receives the Blue Flag Pennant

By operating according to the Blue Flag’s Environmental Code of Conduct, Gentle Giants’ boats will be sailing under the Blue Flag pennant.

The Blue Flag is an internationally recognised eco-label certificate, with the aim of improving the environmental quality of beaches and marinas and the management of coastal areas. It works towards sustainable development, dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, safety and other services. Beaches, marinas and boat owners in 36 countries have been awarded with the Blue Flag. In Iceland, the Icelandic Environment Association (Landvernd) is responsible for awarding and supervision of the Blue Flag.

Boat owners, as well as whale watching companies, receive a small Blue Flag pennant if they commit to the Blue Flag Environmental Code of Conduct for boat owners. Gentle Giants has signed the Environmental Code of Conduct, declaring the company will act according to the directives in it, which include some of the following:

GG puts a great emphasis on delivering all hazardous and toxic waste; such as oil, paint and used batteries to assigned official collecting sites, and sewage from boats will be released in accordance with national regulations.

GG uses recyclable products, and the use of single use products will be avoided as much as possible.

GG uses environmentally friendly products and eco-labels are preferably used for repair and maintenance of hull and engines, interior, exterior.

GG puts effort in energy effiency, with output and speed of engines, in order to minimize pollution and disturbance in wildlife.  Special precaution is taken in the vicinity of whales and breeding birds.

GG informs passengers on the vessels about the high-importance of protecting the environment in the area, its outstanding marine wildlife, stunning scenery and the air that we breath. We are a proud member of the International eco-label Blue Flag.

Gentle Giants’ Environmental Policy will be visible in all of the company’s boats, as well on the homepage.
