Experience the traditional tour from Húsavík. Our birthplace is often considered as the Whale Watching Capital of Europe. It is a unique adventure at sea – watching the wonders of nature in the beautiful surroundings of Skjálfandi Bay, sheltered by the stunning mountains of Vík. This is where our roots lie, where our ancestors used to live in peace and joy for centuries, living in total harmony with the unpredictable and untamed nature of the North Atlantic.

The traditional whale watching tour from Húsavík is a unique adventure at sea which has given our hometown the reputation as the Whale Capital of Iceland. After you have been equipped with a warm safety overall, sail out into the bay on a comfortable oak boat and prepare to be captivated by nature. Your specialized wildlife guide will demonstrate the safety on board and give you live commentary on the sights encountered throughout the tour. Your oak boat has been thoroughly renovated as a safe passenger vessel and plays an important role in Iceland's maritime history and culture.
Skjálfandi Bay is well known for its rich wildlife. Numerous types, shapes and sizes of whales visit the bay, including the acrobatic humpback whales and playful white-beaked dolphins. This is wild nature and unpredictable, but your chances of seeing whales in their natural environment are high.
You will get warm safety overalls before your tour but it is highly recommended to bring own warm and waterproof clothes, footwear and protective bags for cameras as it can be cold and wet out at sea.
Gentle Giants is a truly local family run company with more than 160 years of family history in Skjálfandi Bay.
Departures marked are operated on our oak boat Sylvía with a brand-new eco-friendly engine and 50% more silent
"This was one of the highlights of our entire trip around the country. Our guide was a marine biologist, so we learned a lot"
