FIRST BLUE WHALES OF THE SEASON

This morning the first Blue Whales of the season were spotted by our captain Bessi on board Faldur. We started our trip going south west and after 45 minutes approx. a difficult Minke whale was spotted.  The animal was moving very fast, was hard to follow and was not coming to the surface very often. After trying for a while to get a nice view of it without much success we decided to move on in search of something else. We went north but we couldn’t find anything and finally the captain decided it was time to go back to the harbour as we were running out of time. We were not that happy with the trip as it hadn’t been very successful so far. But, as we always say to our passengers “you never know what’s going to happen out there –  it’s very unpredictable and anything can happen in any moment, we have to be patient and never give up “ And that’s how it was this morning. All of a sudden, when the trip was almost finished, a bunch of big powerful blows appeared some thousand meters away from the boat. “That’s a big blow!!!!” we thought – and after a few minutes there was no doubt – Blue Whales!! It’s always amazing to see them, the largest animal on earth by us in Skjálfandi bay! On the second trip we managed to get very close to them and we were following three that were coming up together all the time. We hope they’ll stay ........
