MY SUMMER IN HUSAVIK

Nuri Pagès Prades from Spain joined our team early this season as a guide. This is what she had to say when leaving Husavik after her summer with GG:

Today is the last day that I am working for Gentle Giants (at least this year!!) and it has been an amazing summer. I have been working mainly on the boats as a guide, and I don’t have words to describe how wonderful and amazing this job is. It is true that some days you have a bad trip or the weather is bad, but in general, the trips are incredible encounters with these huge whales that make you realise how intelligent nature is.

Skjálfandi Bay is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I remember my first impressions when I arrived. The feeling that I was living in a place that you just watch on documentaries. But no, I was living there and the best part is that I was working every day on the sea with expert captains, who have been working for years in the North Atlantic Sea, and with guides from all over the world.

Now the snow has come and I feel a little bit melancholic. It remembers me that the winter is coming and I am not going to see whales until next year, since I am moving to Reykjavik. I am going to miss everything of this town - the people, Höfðabrekka, the GG family (Peter, Maria, Hlynur, Alli, Bessi, Sigrún, Stefán, Lia, Linda, Sóley, Daniel, Óðinn, Siddi), the Whale Museum, the hotspot, the lake … but mainly my gentle giants, my whales.

See you next summer ...

Nuri
