I spent my 20th birthday out on Skjalfandi bay yesterday as I had two tours with captain Bessi. My girlfriend Lia and her family from Sweden joined me for both my tours, and Skjalfandi indeed did not disappoint us this time!
Our second tour was absolutely amazing in all ways – a perfect birthday present from Skjalfandi bay! First to mention, the weather was as good as it gets here in Iceland; calm winds, flat sea and temperatures reaching up to 20°C. Then the highlight of the tour appeared – two BLUE WHALES greeted us far up north in the bay! The largest animals ever to wander the earth, reaching up to 30 metres, were just right in front of my favourite boat Faldur! A once in a lifetime experience, that’s for sure.
The smiles on my passenger’s faces were enormous – especially on my girlfriend’s family from Sweden who were thrilled after the encounters with the blue whales. We haven’t seen those giants in the bay for several weeks but hopefully they’ve come to stay …
