STATUS IN SKJÁLFANDI

It seems like the number of minkes on our tours increase day by day. One reason could be that they have the whole “sea food buffet” for themselves now, as the biggest ones (humpbacks and blue whales) obviously have taken a vacation from whale watching in Skjálfandi for some time. Right now there are about 8-10 minkes in our bay which means that we can go from one to another without staying too long with any of them. To have a selection of minkes is good both for them and us.

In addition to that, playful dolphins and cute harbour porpoises are still around.  Every now and then we also come across occasional visitors. Recently spotted was a fin whale and some orcas which were just around the corner of our bay.

That is the fun of whale watching in Húsavík - we never know what kind of whale we will see, where or when. But what we do know is that we will most likely see some, somehow. Every tour is a new adventure... Welcome to try it out!
