RATHER LATE THAN NEVER

We went out this morning with young and adventurous passengers onboard. On our way north along the coast we bumped into a typical Icelandic fisherman who proudly showed us some of his catch. From there we continued to Puffin Island where there is always action. The whole area is a Puffin Paradise!

It was not until we changed direction and went south again that we started seeing signs of whales. First a blow from a humpback, then the back of a minke whale. Unfortunately the high and breaking waves made it difficult for us and we did not really manage to “watch” the whales as we wanted.

In the last minute before entering the harbour again, we bumped into a big group of social white-beaked dolphins. They approached us and swam with the boat for a long time, like dolphins often do (even though mothers with calves kept their distance) and in the end we got a really good private show. It is said that "The one who waits for something good never waits for too long".

My conclusion: On a day with rough seas, aim for the whales that you do not have to follow. Search for dolphins which approach you instead. This my new tactic could give you a brilliant trip – also during worse weathers.
