MASSIVE MEMORIES
Quite soon after spotting the first blow on the 9:45 tour we realised there were two humpback whales side by side. They were both very calm, swimming together with us in drifting speed – several times so close that passengers literally could have petted them.
We had a great time enjoying the closeness to those gentle giants; seeing every detail, hearing the sound of their powerful exhales. Before we left our new friends, one of them decided to give us a great show through jumping right in front of us.
You can imagine how powerful the splash is when a whale which is the same size as the boat and around 30 tonnes breaches out of the water. It is a splash that makes passengers wet. We all cheered, thanked the humpbacks for a nice time and continued.
As a guide you go on many trips every season. Even though no two tours are exactly the same there are only a few moments which you remember forever. Like this morning when I went out and experienced this amazing humpback encounter together with my passengers...
