ONCE IN A LIFE TIME. IF EVEN.

The first thing I heard when answering the phone was a group of people cheering, screaming and clapping their hands. After a second Daniel (guide onboard Sylvía) started talking in a very excited voice and I could hear the smile on his face.

He gave me a quick review of what was happening; They were peacefully drifting with the waves, waiting for the big whale which they had spotted in a distance to come up again. It could be anywhere. Daniel was standing on deck, leaning to the rail and talking to some passengers, unaware of what was coming...

When he - in the middle of the conversation - threw an eye down the water, he realised that a blue whale was swimming towards them, and was already very close - “The blow holes were so big that Kalli and I could have put our heads down there!".

It swam under the boat from the front to the back and when the head appeared in the aft, the fluke was still on the other side. Danni started screaming in excitement and ran around on the boat with his passengers heeling him.

Blue whales are the biggest creatures ever known on this planet "...and never in my ten years by Gentle Giants have I ever experienced anything like this", Danni made clear.

When he called the whale was still by them, just two metres from the boat. “The passengers say that they do not want it closer, because then it would be on the boat” said Danni and laughed. He was excited, the passengers were thrilled and I could hear the blue whale blow through the phone. Folks, that is what I call whale watching!
