RESCUE DRILL (1)
Today our boats are out again watching humpback whales according to schedule. Yesterday though all our trips were cancelled due to too bad weather conditions. The crew of Gentle Giants used the time of cancelled trips to practise safety routines, in case of emergency onboard.
We stayed within the harbour but still the weather was rough. With other words; Good conditions to practise in. This turned out to be a very successful rescue drill - for your safety!
Here are some glimpses from our safety session yesterday:
Our guides Anna Björg and Guðrún Erla are going over the emergency plan on Sylvía.
MAN OVER BOARD! Guðrún throwing the life ring...
...to Anna Björg who had "fallen over board".
This is Björgvin folding "Björgvinsbeltið".
He is the man, our captain, who invented this harness way back.
It is still an obligatory part of the safety equipment onboard.
Guide Anna Björg getting an idea of how to steer the boat (away from danger)
in case something serious would happen to the captain.
