THE HUMPBACKS ARE BACK
At Gentle Giants we are dealing with nature, and nature is unpredictable – especially in Iceland. Whales come and go and every tour is a new adventure, both for passengers and crew.
Yesterday all whales seemed to have taken the day off and no whale watching boats saw anything bigger than an average person. Today is another day. Captain Björgvin and Guide Anna Björg went out 9:45 and at first it did not look very promising, but when she least expected it Anna Björg found what they had hoped for...
This was how she described their amazing tour;
“The temperature was milder than usual. First we found a group of dolphins, seven or eight. They were very playful and one had a baby – so cute!
We had sailed for 30 more minutes when another group of dolphins found us. It was not until we were on our way back, when my passengers enjoyed their cocoa and I was chatting with people, that I suddenly saw a black back. It came to light it was a humpback and everyone onboard got so happy! After a few breaths another one appeared. The two humpbacks were very calm, swimming close to the boat. It was exactly what we had been hoping for.”
When I asked Anna Björg if she screamed she answered with a smile “Of course I screamed. It is always the first reaction when you find those big beautiful beasts!”.
