WHALES BACK FOR WORK

This morning we started our trip in bright sunlight. It seemed like the sun got really motivated due to all the celebrations going on all over Iceland yesterday to welcome the summer.

After one hour we reached the other site of the bay, where we saw some harbour porpoises swimming quickly through the water. We sailed along the mountains for a bit, but no other whales could be seen. Captain Bessi decided to cross the bay again and set the course for Puffin Island. For a long time nothing happened and the motivation slowly went down. But suddenly a huge blow appeared behind us. A humpback whale!

We turned around immediately and had to wait for another ten minutes until the blow and the black back showed up again at the surface. A few seconds later we got a big surprise – a second blow next to the first one. Fantastic!

There were two new humpbacks in the bay – back for work after their holiday. We followed them as long as possible and finally had to leave both, because time was over and we had to go back to the harbour.

Today the humpbacks were very active. They probably searched for food. I hope they were successful in finding something to eat and will feed in the bay for a few days, doing a good job in posing for our passengers and not thinking about another holiday.
