SEASON GRADUALLY GROWING
It is getting warmer day by day, the snow is melting and the first waterfalls are running down the mountain hills. The puffins have reoccupied Puffin Island to prepare their burrows from last year, ready for a new breeding season. Northern fulmars, guillemots and eider ducks can be seen on every trip. Today we also got the chance to spot the first two northern gannets of the season. During the summer there are many species of birds breeding in our area. This is just the beginning...
Concerning the whales we have been lucky so far. Yesterday a group of white-beaked dolphins with about 20 individuals swam around the boat for a long time. Today we watched some harbour porpoises right in front of us. Unfortunately the bigger whales have not shown up during the last days, but they are definitely on their way. Everything is possible at any time.
As long as the weather allows we will be sailing every day and keep our eyes open for changes in Skjálfandi bay. Let us hope for the best.
