WHALES IN HEAVEN
Today it was a beautiful morning in Skjálfandi Bay.
On the 09:45 trip we got the chance to sail once more in perfect conditions - flat sea, shining sun, no wind, warm temperatures and crystal clear water.
When we started our trip, the bay seemed to be empty. There were no birds and no movement on the surface at all. But then in the middle of the bay the first whales showed up: harbour porpoises.
As we continued west, more and more birds surrounded us. Finally we reached the other side of the bay and the fish rock. There it felt like in whale heaven! At first a big group of white beaked dolphins was swimming all around the boat for 15 minutes. Next we saw some more black backs and decided to leave the dolphins behind. But they didn’t want to be left, so they followed us. The backs turned out to be about 6 minkes and 2 humpback whales surrounded by thousands of birds.
So in the end three different whale species were busy with feeding everywhere around our boat and we could choose which ones we wanted to watch. Pure luxury, but also lots of fun!

White-beaked dolphins are often spotted together in large groups.
Several minkes were also feeding together with the humpbacks.
