AMAZING BIG WHALE SHOW

Yesterday the blue gentle giants stayed the whole day in Skjálfandi Bay. They had company from humpbacks, minke whales and big groups of white-beaked dolphins.

In the morning the blue whales were really active. They rolled around in the water while feeding. We could not only see its blue head and back, but also the white underside and flippers.

In the afternoon they were much calmer which allowed us to come extremely close to them. Especially during the big whale safari:

At the beginning one of the humpback whales was around the boat. Later on 20 to 30 dolphins – big as well as small ones – surrounded Amma Sigga for at least 20 minutes. Then we continued to the huge blow which the crew had spotted at the horizon. On our way to that area the giant blue whale all of a sudden came up to the surface for breathing – only five metres away from the boat! Unexpected surprise for everyone on board. Fortunately this blue whale was not diving for very long while we were around so we always got it incredibly close to our boat.

Finally we had to leave this representative of The Biggest Animals on Earth. But on our way back a second blue whale showed up and made us stop again.

All those beautiful and impressive whales could be enjoyed in wonderful weather and calm sea the whole day. What is better than four different kinds of whales near the boat in romantic sunset light?
