GENTLE GIANTS AND CLOWNS OF THE OCEAN
The last days we have been extremely lucky with the whales in Skjálfandi Bay. There were several blue whales, as well as humpback whales, dolphins, minke whales and porpoises showing up.
All our passengers have had the pleasure to see humpback whales on their trips. On some trips those big whales were feeding – separate as well as together. Others preferred to be sporty instead and jumped completely out of the water. Something extraordinary and very impressive to see!
The blue giants of the ocean were not interested in sports at all. They wanted to fill their empty stomachs and nothing else. So we could see them on most of our trips, but they left the bay as soon as they were filled up with food.
But not only the small whales were entertaining. The dolphins did a great job as well. Many of them were swimming around in the bay. They jumped out of the water, even spinning around sometimes and most of the time they were curious and stayed close around the boats.
With all those whales in the bay other really cute and interesting animals moved out of the spotlight: the puffins. The last days those clowns of the ocean guarded the boats all the time, which was good entertainment! During our puffin trips we did not only watch them on the water, but also on Lundey – Puffin Island – where they took care of their burrows.
So all in all it has been successful whale- and puffin watching the last days in gorgeous weather and on completely flat sea.
