GIANTS IN BLUE AND BLACK
Yesterday was another beautiful day of first class whale watching in Skjálfandi Bay.
From early morning until late evening several humpback whales were swimming, chilling and exercising in the bay. During the 13:15 trip one of them started tail slapping for a while and a few minutes later the sport session continued with three humpback whales showing their strength through lifting their 30 tons of body weight out of the water.
In the morning many playful dolphins could be seen around the boats as well. It was a lot of fun to see those small whales coming close and playing around in the waves that our boat created.
The highlight of the day appeared in the afternoon – blue whales!
For a few hours those blue ocean giants honoured us with their visit. As if it was not special enough to get to see one of them in middle of July, THREE together made their way into Skjálfandi Bay. At one point they were extremely close to the harbour and after one minute of sailing in the bay we saw the huge blows already quite close. At this point all of them were on their way out already. We followed them north for some time and left them to watch some amazing humpbacks in the middle of the bay.
