BIG WHALE SAFARI DELUXE

We were waiting on board Amma Sigga for the humpback to blow once again. The sun shone, the sea was flat and all you could hear was the silence - but everything changed in a second. Suddenly the calm surface was pierced by the massive body of a humpback whale which shot itself up, twisted and landed on its side. It took seconds for the splash to disappear and my heart raced. I spontaneously screamed of joy and excitement, which I think made my passengers aware of how cool this moment actually was...

Our tour started with a stop at Puffin Island (which is now included in the Big Whale Safari). Thousands of puffins flew above our heads, chilled on the surface around the boat and guarded their burrows on the island. We continued west and found a humpback couple in the northern middle of the bay. We got good views and it was one of those which jumped. Fluke after fluke, blow after blow. It was great!

We headed even further west and suddenly I noticed splashes and fins; it was a group of dolphins. We turned towards them and they met us up half way, probably curious about who we were. They hooked up with us, bow riding and jumping around; full of life and freedom. The dolphins' white sides are very easy to follow through the surface, especially during sunshine.

When they got bored of us they wandered away and we left them in peace. On the way home we saw another group of dolphins and more humpback whales. A top tour and memories to keep forever; not only for the passengers but also for captain Kalli and me - one of our top tours this summer. I mean - What can you ask for...?
