BIG HUMPBACK ON BIG WHALE SAFARI

Big Whale Safari on our speedboat Amma Sigga is still in full swing and today I guided the 12:30 tour with huge success.

Captain Ingibjörg and I headed out to Skjálfandi Bay with ten enthusiastic passengers – and as always in whale watching, we had no idea what nature had to offer us on the tour.

In the beginning we encountered one humpback whale which we managed to take a good look at. We had heard from the boats being out earlier in the morning that there were more humpbacks around, and as we can move very fast and cover more area with the speedboat we started to head further north to see if we could find them. It took no more than a few minutes before we spotted a blow, and then another one just close to it- there were two humpbacks swimming together.

Just after they went for a dive we spotted yet another blow, a really big one, a little further out so we started moving in that direction just to find two more humpbacks! Both these two were very big and me and the captain were a little shocked by the size of them because it is not very often you see that big humpback whales. We also got to see the biggest one lob tailing (throwing the tail out of the water) before we went back to the harbour. It was an amazing trip and the humpbacks were once again the stars of the show.
