ICELAND – BEST EUROPEAN COUNTRY AWARDS
Iceland, the country of fire and ice, is a unique destination. This small island in the north Atlantic attracts visitors from all over the world with its unspoilt nature and stunning landscape. Imagine experiencing majestic whales blowing in the midnight sun, spurting geysers, and mighty waterfalls. This is Iceland folks.
Iceland has been chosen as the “Best European Country” by the Guardian and Observer Readers' Travel Awards 2012. This is great news and once again, we get it confirmed that we live in a fascinating country – a country to be proud of.
Earlier this season, the Guardian journalist Jamie Lafferty joined a whale watching tour with me on board our boat Faldur. As always, I explained that this is wild nature and indeed unpredictable. Despite cold weather, the tour was successful with three blue whales spotted. This is how Jamie describes his tour with Gentle Giants:
“We're bobbing around in Skjálfandi bay, off Husavik in chilly northern Iceland, with a trio of leviathans for company. They're alternately spouting like the Bellagio's fountains. Before we got on board, the Gentle Giants tour group had said it couldn't guarantee that we'd see whales, though with a 98% hit rate they might as well have. Even so, three blue whales is an incredible haul.”
