FEEDING MINKE WHALE

After looking forward to it the past days we finally could start the season today, leaving the harbour this morning at 09:45 for the first time of the year.

While the weather had got really good until yesterday evening, it suddenly seemed to get worse again this morning, but only for a wonder. It turned out to become a really nice morning with a clear view of the mountains and the entire bay with its islands and beautiful surrounding.

After we encountered loads of different bird species we finally reached the other side of the bay where a great surprise was awaiting us. In a huge group of birds, a dorsal fin showed up all of a sudden and turned out to be the one of a minke whale, which was really busy with feeding in that area. Breaking the surface for breathing regularly made it possible to observe the marine mammal for quite a while. Besides, the birds, which gathered to steal some fish from the feeding whale, were performing an enjoyable show, following the whale wherever it showed up next, making it also much easier for us to keep track on the minke.

All in all it was a great experience, for the crew as well as for the passengers and everyone gained some memories that will not be forgotten so easily.
