HUMPBACK AND DOLPHIN ENCOUNTER
After our successful first trip yesterday we went out again this morning as scheduled. We were hoping to find that minke again, which we were observing yesterday. Therefore, we went as straight as possible to the area where we spotted the whale the last time.
While the weather turned out to be pretty stormy and cold, including snowflakes sweeping our faces throughout the whole trip and waves, which made our boat pitch and toss a lot, we got a great surprise as soon as we reached our destination...
Likewise yesterday, we were awaited by a group of birds, which were drifting on the sea close to the mountains. After just some seconds of waiting and watching we were surprised by a big blow, a black back with its dorsal fin and finally, a fluke, which was lifted out of the water while a huge humpback whale was going down diving to catch some more fish.
The following minutes we experienced an amazing show: While the humpback was approaching our boat and came closer and closer it also kept on feeding, showing us its big open mouth when it came close to the surface to catch the prey.
Moments later a group of white-beaked dolphins joined the humpback in its curiosity about our boat and therefore, stayed with us for a while, showing up all around our boat, before they disappeared again.
Though the weather was quite challenging us on our trip, all of us were really satisfied at the end as everyone could gather a good sight on the whale and take a lot of pictures of the sea mammals, which spend some time with us.
