HUMPBACKS AND BLUE WORTH THE WET AND COLD

Although we had to withstand a really rough sea on our 13:15 trip today, the whales we encountered were just fabulous and made it worth to be out on a boat in that icy cold weather.

Three humpbacks were enjoying their stay in Skjálfandi Bay, swimming together and allowing the boat to come pretty close. One of them even started rolling around and lifting its flipper out of the water.

But they were not the only ones around. Just about 100 meters further inside the bay suddenly a much bigger blow appeared, which turned out to be the one of a huge blue whale.

So after we had spent some time with the group of humpbacks we decided to leave them behind and try to get a closer look at the biggest animal existing on earth. Not only having a heart as big as a small car, this blue whale turned out to be also quite warm-hearted, appreciating our company and we got the chance to see the animal next to our boat.

When the whale had showed up around our boat several times, it finally turned around and swam into the bay. After we gazed after it for some minutes, still taking in the impressive moments we just had, we also decided to turn and head back to the harbour of Húsavík.
