AMMA KIBBA PREMIER
Last night at 19.00 Amma Kibba was out on its first Big Whale Safari ever. Both me and captain Sverrir were very excited to do this tour on our new RIB, as she is a lot bigger and faster than little sister Amma Sigga.
Whale watching on a RIB is a completely different kind of experience compared to whale watching on an oak boat, since you are sitting only a few decimeters over the surface of the water. It is a kind of close contact you can not get in any other way! Amma Kibba is more spacious, giving more people the opportunity to go out on these adventurous trips and there is still a lot of space and room for everyone to see the whales well.
Yesterday the plan was to head straight out to Puffin Island to look at the puffins, and then start the whale watching. However the whales of Skjalfandi Bay had a different idea… Just a few seconds after leaving the harbor we spotted the big blow of a humpback whale very close to us. Sometime things just don't happen according to plan, so we went with this whale for a little while before we decided to go and have a look at the puffins. The sea was almost flat and it was perfect conditions to try out a new RIB and we got lucky many times, seeing both humpbacks whales and minke whales up close.
Going on a trip on Amma Kibba is definitely a great way of getting in close contact with the whales, as well as an exciting and very fun boat trip. Or, to quote one of or passengers: "I normally don’t like boats a lot, but this one was the most fun I’ve had in years!"
