PERFECT CONDITIONS

During the last days we have been blessed with some really good weather here. Yesterday Húsavík had sun and 25°c (!). Most people in town wore T-shirts and had ice-cream, which almost seems like compulsory on such days. Everyone wants to use the “rare” opportunity.

As a guide at Gentle Giants you spend big parts of your summer on board the boats, dressed in clothes which are normally associated with winter. That has not been needed during the last days. Our guide Elin commented yesterday’s whale watching: “For once it was enough to guide in double jumpers. There was no need for jacket, gloves or hat. It felt so good not to have to be cold at sea”. (Still we recommend dressing well on board, as it always is colder at sea than in land).

The whale watching has been great too - not at least the humpback whales have been very many and easy to watch.

When I asked our guide Sarah how she would describe the current whale conditions she said; "It is amazing! While waiting for one humpback to show up after a deep dive, you can watch other ones further away. Really wherever you look there are blows and flukes!”

The status in Húsavík could not be better at the moment. Now everyone is also waiting for the annual Mærudagar festival which will be held here in Húsavík over the upcoming weekend. More about that later...
