THE PUFFINS HAVE LEFT
"The Clowns of the Ocean" they are called, the puffins which have almost become a symbol of Iceland. Between the middle of April and the middle of August we can enjoy the presence of these funny birds daily, during our tours.
In the summer they are nesting around the Icelandic coast. As many as 10.000.000 individuals can be found, which makes the Icelandic population of the Atlantic Puffin the biggest in the world. Now autumn is getting closer and they have now left our bay for this year.
Our puffins have migrated to the open ocean where they spend their winters, further south on the Atlantic Ocean. They will have no ground under their feet until they are back here again in April next year, for yet another breeding season.
All summer our GG7 Big Whale Safari tour has included a stop at the Puffin Island. Now as our funny friends are left, the tour will be focusing on whales only (as planned) - until next year.
