GUIDE ELIN'S OWN WORDS
Even though Gentle Giants will keep on running whale watching tours until 15th October, and many whales can be found in the bay all year around, it is still a fact that the highest season is soon slowing down. Our guide Elin will leave our town tomorrow after yet another good summer in Húsavík by us. Here you can read her own words:
So, August is coming to an end and so is also my time here in Húsavík. I was guiding my last trip of the season yesterday and now it is only a few days until I leave whales, hot chocolate and speed boats for books, exams and 10 o’clock coffee in university in Sweden.
It is not without sadness I leave this beautiful island and this wonderful village in the north as I have had an amazing second season working as a guide here. We have been a little bit unlucky with the weather this summer but then again we have been extremely lucky with the whales, and I am happy to say that in 118 guided trips this year I have not had a single trip where we have not spotted any of the bigger whales. It has been a great season, and one of the best summers of my life. This really is a dream job.
Thanks to my amazing Gentle Giants crew and thanks to all of you who have been out on the boats with me this year. I am so happy I get to share this wonderful experience with all of you! Now I am moving on to new adventures, but hopefully I will be back here one day.
Love, Elin.
Below you see some glimpses from my summer.
These are memories that will warm me up when the winter gets too dark and cold.
