FIN WHALES IN SKJÁLFANDI
Every now and then we are visited by whale species which are not considered common in our bay. That happened this afternoon when two fin whales were encountered. This is the second biggest whale species after the blue whales - which means this is BIG news...
We assume these two individuals were a cow (mother) with her calf (baby). Guide on board the 16:00 Big Whale Safari was Peter who now saw fin whales for the second time in his six years working as a full-time guide by us. That shows how special it is to see these gentle giants in our bay. Both crew and passengers were amazed!
This is the beauty of working with nature; suddenly - with no clue in advance - we might see orcas, northern bottlenose whales or fin whales like today. Every whale watching tour is a new adventure, and we have no idea what will meet us out there.
Give it a try!
