REPORT FROM A GUIDE

One of our new crew members, Þórdís, has come quickly into her role as a guide and seems to enjoy it a lot. But who would not just love it during the amazing conditions that we have had recently...

She explains that there have been a lot of humpback whales in the bay, often together in groups of two or three, as well as a good amount of blue whales. They have often been all together in the same area which is probably rich in food for them. "Sometimes we see how the humpbacks come up to the surface and clap their jaws together with a mouthful of food", Þórdís says.

This is how Þórdís expresses herself about her new guide job by Gentle Giants: "I think it is unbelievably fun to guide here in Húsavík, especially as the bay is so incredibly beautiful with the mountains and all the scenery ... It is a wonderful life experience to come so close to the whales and every day is a new adventure, never the same".

And she is right. That is also the fun of whale watching; no two tours are the same. The conditions that we have had recently, with the bay full of whales, makes it very likely for you to see both this and that. You just do not know exactly where or when.
