NATIONAL DAY ON SKJÁLFANDI BAY

Today, 17th June, is Iceland’s national day. Many locals joined the annual parade through town or took the children pony riding while we celebrated on the bay with - amongst other whales - this very acrobatic humpback.

The sea was calm in the afternoon and even though it was cloudy, the breeze was still mild. On the 16:45 tour we encountered a humpback whale that gave us a full acrobatic show to the joy of everyone on board - not at least the several families with children.

Everyone got excited when the humpback breached around 20 times and in between it also waved to us with its significant and extremely long flippers. A great way for us to celebrate the national day!
