GRÍMSEY- AND FLATEY ISLANDS THIS MORNING
The sea was calm as a mirror this morning and the sun stood high already at six o’clock when Kalli, Daniel and I went from Húsavík harbour to Grímsey Island in less than one hour on RIB Amma Kibba.
Our mission was to pick up the three birds researchers from North East Iceland Nature Center who we had given a ride there two days ago. Along our way we counted blows; eleven humpback whales and one blue whale - some close, others further away. It was a fantastic boat ride, with both peace and action at the same time.
On our way home we did a shorter stop on Flatey Island too; a wish from the three passengers. This island is a haven for birds where more than 30 species nest during the summer time. It is the most amazing place for nature-lovers in general, and bird-enthusiasts in particular.
Are you interested in visiting these two islands too? We can take you there. Read more here:

Peaceful sea this morning. Awesome to experience from on board one of our fast RIBs.
Kalli, Daniel and our three passengers on the way between Grímsey- and Flatey Islands.
Daniel happy to find special arctic tern-sticks which are available by both harbours on Flatey.
A tool for protection as the terns attack your highest point if you come close to their nesting areas.
Beautiful view from Flatey Island towards the Kin mountains.
