OUR JAPANESE 5 STAR BIG DAY
Yesterday we were happy to welcome a group of 105 Japanese tourists on our oak boats Faldur and Sylvía.
The day could not have started better as with the sun, which was shining onto us from a blue sky. At 09.30 all preparations were done and the crew ready to welcome our visitors with some typical taste of Icelandic super food: Totally fresh filleted raw artic charr chunks with a dash of soya and coriander.
Just after that everyone was boarded and both boats headed out into Skjálfandibay. An almost entirely flat sea welcomed us out there and - surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Kin - passengers could fully enjoy the boat ride whilst bathing in the sun.
Just half an hour later we found two minke whales, which were obviously enjoying the sun as well and therefore, staying on the surface for long period of times. The second one turned out to be a young one, extremely curious and approached our boats soon after: First having a close-up look at Faldur, then at Sylvía. The whale encircled our boats, surfacing just next to us. As the sea was pretty clear we could follow it with our eyes even underneath the surface.
After it lost interest in us we headed further out as we got a call from one of our RIBs that there were larger whales in the bay. And we were not disappointed: Three humpbacks and another minke were relaxing on the surface a 20-minutes boat ride away. As they were really calm and swimming slowly, our passengers were able to get really close looks at them. Finally, they left for a dive by lifting their beautiful tale high out of the water as for a friendly goodbye.
Also for us it was time to turn around and start our way back towards Húsavík. But the whale-encounters weren‘t over yet: Just ten minutes later a group of dolphins – which we had spotted in a further distance earlier – accompanied us almost all the way back to Húsavík. They were swimming on both our sides, speeding up every once in a while as if they were chasing the boat. Playing with us and the boat they were entertaining everyone onboard.
Finally, everyone reached the harbor cheerfully, clapping hands for how awesome these tours had been. We are thankful and proud to have this oppurtunity to fullfill our guests wishes, big time......and Gently.
