Passenger honouring work of captain and guide
Every year, people from all over the world come to Húsavík to piece together the crew of Gentle Giants. Everybody has their own personality and spirit. Just as many-sided as our crew are the passengers and we do our best to meet everyone’s expectations. Though we are doing the same job for several months, every tour is a different and new adventure for all of us: We have to adapt in order to make the best out of every trip and therefore, receiving feedback from our passengers is very important to acquire assurance of our doings.
The other day the following mail reached the ticket office of Gentle Giants honouring the work of our captain Pétur and guide Belén:
“We recently did one of your whale tours out of Húsavík aboard Sylvía.
While it was late in the season and no promise was made to find whales, the skipper and his lovely Spanish crewmember did a great job on the day to give us all a good experience. We did get to see a minke whale and a family of killer whales. The skipper did a great job in staying with the pod to give us all a good look.
Most appreciated on the day was the commentary by the Spanish girl with the microphone throughout the three hour trip. She was a delight to listen to and has to be commended on her mastery of English, her knowledge of the whales and obvious passion for her job. Well done, Belén! I have been involved with Marine Rescue in Australia and seen whales on many occasions as they travel up and down the East Coast on their yearly migrations, but I have never seen killer whales so that day was pretty special for me and helped all the more with your enthusiasm. Your passion was infectious and made me think you are probably involved with marine biology in some way. You did the day proud even though you threatened to cry more than once (joking).
Cheers……… Chris Woolcock”
