VERY WELCOME TO THE BLUE PARTY
After two amazing trips in perfect weather conditions and very good sightings throughout the day, we started our last trip on Amma Kibba - looking forward to find the whales again.
We knew that there was a blue whale in the middle of the bay so we were heading there - and spotted the blow! We got very excited, but it was diving for very long and we could not see it anymore.
We kept sailing north and after a while we got into the same situation with a humpback whale. We were quite surprised since on the last trips the whales were coming up very often. So we went even further north without any news about other whales in the bay…
Suddenly we spotted a huge blow on the distance. As soon as we were approaching the area a group of white beaked dolphins started jumping on both sides of the boat to surf the small waves. It was amazing to see them in the sunshine and a completely flat see. Behind the huge blow from the blue whale. Once we got closer it was still on the surface, behaving very calm and showing its huge pale blue body. Suddenly we heard another powerful blow. We turned around and we saw three more blue whales very close…swimming together and breathing strongly with their huge lungs.
They were feeding in the blue party having the dolphins as their best guests!
It is an unique opportunity to see these giants here in Skjálfandi these weeks. They are considered quite rare to see all over the world, but passing here on their way to cooler waters!
It is said that only 5% of the total population has seen a blue whale in their lives! We have to be proud! We are part of that percentage =D
