MAGNIFICENT ENCOUNTERS WITH A NOISY BLUE

The luck was on our side on today’s 16:45 on Sylvía. It was a little foggy and rainy, but when we got closer to the whales it was all forgotten. We saw blows everywhere! We were looking at some humpbacks fluking and showing of their mouth whilst feeding when a BLUE WHALE came out of the blue!  We didn‘t know where to look, 9 o´clock, 3 o´clock. There were whales simply everywhere!

One humpback came really close, swam under the boat and came up just 3 meters away from the boat - checking us out.

Then, we suddenly had blue whales coming up on both sides of the boat. One of them came closer and started feeding just by the boat. We couldn‘t move – and didn’t need to - the blue whale just swam around us with lots of artic terns, seagulls and puffins flying around us, too. The blue whale came really close, still feeding and not minding the audience at all. Its loud blow and noises when beaking the surface again and again made us cringe several times. It's simply thrilling to see these huge animaly up close!

Then when we thought that it wouldn‘t get any better it started rolling around on the surface showing off its huge flipper and underside. We had no words. It was an experience of a lifetime.

Just before heading home we watched two humpbacks swimming together and fluking side by side by our boat. Then just like saying goodbye, the blue whale came up again just next to us.

We were an extremely happy crew and guests that sailed home after a magnificent encounter with the world biggest animals.

The blue whale was surfacing right next to the boat. It's noisy breath made us cringe again and again. It was a thrilling experience to see that huge animal diving around our boat, feeding next to us and rolling over with a completely filled up mouth.
