A SUNBATHING HUMPBACK

On today’s morning trip we headed south and short after we had left the harbour area we got to see a minke travelling in that part of the bay. After watching it for some time we decided to leave it behind to head closer to the beach where a humpback was obviously relaxing. It drifted along the surface for some time, was sinking down slowly, and surfaced again to breath. Then it rolled over and was lying upside down. At the same time it was holding both it’s flippers out of the water, waving them from one side to the other and let them fall down onto the surface before doing it over again. For some time it kept lying that way, stretched the flippers away from its body as if it was enjoying the awesome morning weather. It was sunny, cosy warm and the sky had cleared up quickly. For a pretty long while it drifted along our boat. At some point we had to leave it behind to start our way back home. Now also the passengers started to enjoy the sunshine, sat down and appreciated the summerly morning.
