BREAKING NEWS: BLUE WHALE IN SKJÁLFANDI

Our RIB Amma Sigga is right now watching a Blue Whale in the bay! It is the first Blue Whale since the beginning of July. Blue Whales usually pass Skjálfandibay in the end of May and throughout June. Therefore, it is a big surprise to see one of the them now in the mid of August. The whale might be on its way back from the feeding grounds into low latitude waters where they give birth to their calves.

Blue Whales are the by far largest animals on earth: They can reach a length of about 30 metres and weigh up to 180 tons!
