SIESTA TIME

Today has been an awesome day out at sea. First of all the weather could not have been better, it was simply amazing. Once we had left the harbour we realized that also the sea was flat as a mirror. The mountains were reflecting on the surface and above Húsavík the colours of the sunrise hadn’t disappeared, yet. Some minutes after we started heading out a quite big group of dolphins joined our boat - adults, juveniles and calves.

Just a short time of sailing and we found a humpback drifting on the surface. Obviously it was relaxing, maybe enjoying the beauty of the morning. But it didn’t leave for a dive or anything like that. It floated among the boats, got close from time to time. One could see the entire whale: The blowholes, back and dorsal fin on the surface, the rest of the body – head, fluke and flippers - underneath. Apparently, the whale had decided to have a rather long lasting siesta in the early morning hours.
