THE WHALE'S DOUBLE
Yesterday evening we headed out on our RIB Amma Sigga for the „GG2 Big Whale Safari“. After getting the first humpback surfacing right next to the boat in the very beginning we had to wait a little for it to show up again. Suddenly it broke the surface again just in front of us with its mouth widely open. Obviously it was feeding on something close to the surface. This way of surfacing made the huge animal appear even larger than usual. Everyone aboard was stunned. After repeating that behaviour a couple of times it left for another deep dive. About ten minutes later we saw the next blow and thought it had surfaced again. In believe it was the same individual we approached it. Once we got closer we realized that it was another humpback which had appeared in the same area. Still, the whale started to swim towards us, passed our boat just some metres away from the boat’s bow and then left for a dive, raising its beautiful fluke out of the water. We had to wait for a minute only then it surfaced again – as the other whale with a widely open mouth. Then it let itself fall back into the water. It repeated the behaviour a few more times before leaving for a longer dive. Everyone aboard was happyamazed by these awesome encounters. However, it was time for us to head back home.
