SPECIAL GUESTS
Today we got some rare visitors in Skjálfandi-Bay – KILLER WHALES!
They showed up around noon when we were heading out on our boat Sylvía for the second trip.
We were actually planning to sail towards the west side of the bay, where we saw several humpback whales during our first trip.
On our way suddenly black dorsal fins appeared north of us. At first we thought about some white-beaked dolphins, but very soon it turned out that it was a group of about 10 to 15 orcas. It was a family with one male and several female killer whales as well as a few calves.
We followed them for some time before we continued going west. There we were able to watch six different humpback whales close to our boat and more blows in a distance.
So all in all it was a more than successful day of whale watching in the Skjálfandi-Bay today!
