A PHOTO EVERYONE DREAMS OF
“After three summers on the bay witnessing amazing humpback moments, I finally captured in a photo the one everyone is waiting for,” writes our guide and researcher Charla.
Humpback whales are known for their acrobatic behaviours. Here in Skjálfandi we sometimes get to witness the humpbacks breaching. It is impressive seeing a 10-15 metres long animal, which weighs up to 40 tons “flying” through the air and falling back into the water.
To get a photo of a breach is of course what everyone wishes to have or would like to show to friends. But even though these animals are that huge and sometimes seem to fall in slow-motion… getting it on a photo is still more difficult as one would believe it is.
