BIG WHALE TIMES FOR THE SPEED BOAT

Today our 12:30 "GG2 Big Whale Safari" was able to spot three different whale species.

Along them was the biggest animal existing on earth: a BLUE WHALE!

Just as other species also blue whales are migrating between their feeding grounds up north and their breeding areas in low latitude waters. In recent years we got to see many blue whales whilst they were on their way further up north. Several of them make a stopover in Skjálfandi what enables us to show these giants to our passengers. Blue whales are simply impressive to watch. Imagine an animal with a length of up to 30 metres floating right next to you!

Surprisingly many blue whales have been showing up in Skjálfandi for a short visit since the mid of August. They are now on their way back into warmer waters, but several seem to make another stopover in our bay.

Along the blue whale, people aboard our RIB speed boat Amma Sigga got to watch a humpback as well as two minke whales.
