LOADS OF LIFE IN THE BAY

RIB whale watching in May

During the past days the whale watching has been really successful. More and more whales – especially humpback whales – have made their way up to the north and into our bay. On nearly all our tours we were able to spot these animals in different areas of the bay – some of them were just a short boat ride away from the harbour! Also yesterday at least two individuals were sighted in addition to some minke whales, which had been spotted already the previous days.

Along with the whales, also more and more birds have arrived and it is getting very busy in the bay. Lundey (Puffin Island) and the water around is crowded with puffins winning back their lifetime mates and getting their nests ready for the upcoming breeding season. Arctic terns and fulmars can frequently be seen feeding along with the whales and flying all over the bay as well as several other bird species as for example gannets, guillemots and many more.

Come and join us on our tours to see the wildlife of Skjálfandi Bay!
