FIN WHALE VISITING SKJÁLFANDI BAY

fin whale surfacing

Today, one of our RIB speed boats was able to see a fin whale. Fin whales are the second largest whales existing on earth and seldom seen in our bay. Usually, they spend their day further out, searching for food in deeper waters.

For a while, today's fin whale was seen swimming and diving near the mountains close to Flatey Island. However, as suddenly as it showed up to surprise and delight our crew and passengers, it disappeared again after some time, probably to head further out again.

Besides the fin whale, numerous humpback whales were seen in different parts of the bay.
