HALF-WAY THROUGH AN INCREDIBLE HUMPBACK SEASON

It's hard to believe we are past the half-way point in an already amazing and exciting season! So far this season has brought us so many humpback whales, and here at Gentle Giants many of us have enjoyed keeping track of the individuals throughout the seasons. Individual humpback whales are fairly easily recognizable from their unique pattern on the underneath side of their fluke (tail). So far, there has been over 130 individuals recognized in the bay by the Husavik Research Center in 2017!

There has already been a returning favourite name "Orien", as well as several other returning whales that have spent quite a lot of time feeding in the bay in the past, such as "Odin" and "Pin". We are looking forward to all the new and familiar flukes the second half of the season will bring us!
