DOUBLE, TRIPLE, QUADRUPLE HUMPBACKS!

Three humpback whales together

Though the humpback whales in the bay are generally solitary animals, always in the Autumn more than any other time, we start to see the whales coming together in pairs or even larger groups. Soon the humpback whales will be embarking on an amazing migration to the Caribbean or Cape Verde Island areas for their breeding season. Humpbacks are known to migrate in small groups and socialize with other whales along the way, which likely explains their groupings here in Skjálfandi this time of year. Our lovely humpbacks are coming together to socialize and maybe find their migration partner. Since their migration is approximately one month long, it‘s understandable that they might want some company!

There is still time for you to see them here in Húsavík until the end of November, and bid them farewell until next year! Book your tour here.
