BIG (BLUE WHALE) NEWS FROM OUR BAY

Blue Whale, Gentle Giants Whale Watching, Húsavík, Iceland

Seeing a blue whale is literally a big thing and our passengers today were lucky enough to encounter the first one of our season.

Blue whales are the biggest animals on Earth and can reach up to 33 metres and 190 tonnes. Its heart can be the size of a car, the flukes as broad as a small aeroplane and some of its blood vessels broad enough for you to swim through them.

This is how our passenger Nina Neumann from Germany described her blue whale experience:

 – It was like meditation watching the sea and the horizon while waiting for the whale to come up again for another breath. After we heard it blow everything got quiet on the boat and you could feel the excitement on board. It was such an impressive experience, said Nina Neumann after the blue whale encounter.
