FIRST DRONE FOOTAGE FROM FALDUR

Húsavík harbor seen from above

In the beginning of May we started to spot increasing numbers of whales around Skjalfandi Bay. Every day, more and more were coming to feed in the cold Icelandic water. The first rule when you visit Iceland is that you must be ready for every type of weather, as you can experience every season - autumn, winter, spring and summer - all in one day.

The last week of May, our new guides arrived and began their training. After a few days with good weather (and great whales) around the bay I felt confident to fly the drone from one of our large oak boats. New guide Ingibjörg and Veronica from the ticket centre came with me and the drone to enjoy another beautiful day with the whales.

WE DID IT!

I already had experience flying the drone but did not know how difficult it would be while moving on a boat. I only had 10 minutes to film and managed to capture a few good shots of the whales before I had to land it on Veronica´s waiting hand.
The trip could not have been better! There were loads of humpback whales feeding close to the surface and approaching our boat. This is the first drone footage recorded for Gentle Giants this year, and it really highlights how enormous the animals are in comparison to our boats.
During this season I will try to take more videos with the drone, I hope you enjoyed watching this video and will come back to see the next.
