A VERY SUCCESSFUL LUMP FISH SEASON

the crew of Athena

Earlier in March we wrote about our fishing boat Aþena having returned to Húsavík right in time to start the annual lump fish season. (In late autumn she had been relocated to Reykjavík and underwent both, modernisation and maintenance work during the following winter months.)
Just before the end of March she commenced the fishing and from that moment on, the crew had 44 days to catch the desired lump fish. Whilst the back then still winterly weather would at times make an anyways hard job even more challenging, the five-strong crew kept up their work throughout the following weeks. At long last, they headed out of HúsavÍk's harbor for a last time on the 1st of May and retrieved their final catch and nets. The 44 days of hard work and endurance were rewarded with a total catch of 80,331kg, a score that would rank Aþena on the first place among all boats that have gone out for lump fishing this season.
